Fiber and metformin therapy in adolescents with obesity and insulin resistance

Obesity | Diabetes | Insulin Resistance | Metformin

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of a fiber supplement and metformin alone and in combination, over 6 months, on metabolism and inflammation through changes in the gut microbes in adolescents with obesity, insulin resistance and family history of type 2 diabetes.
Our study will provide information about effective strategies for the prevention and treatment of such conditions. Early detection and therapy might help control weight gain and prevent type 2 diabetes in adulthood.
