Equitable pandemic communication strategies to support sexual and gender minority transplant patients

Some Canadians who identify as sexual and/or gender minorities (SGM)—such as gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, transgender, and gender-diverse individuals—face barriers to health care and poorer outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic worsened these challenges, especially for immunocompromised transplant patients. Clear, reliable information is critical, yet many report guidance from health authorities and providers is inconsistent or confusing. Our study will examine how transplant programs collect and use SGM data, engage SGM transplant patients about their experiences, and partner with SGM health groups. This work will help reduce inequities and improve care for SGM transplant patients.

Critères de participation

Inclusion Criteria:
The inclusion criteria focus on SGM individuals who have received a solid organ or stem cell transplant, as the study aims to explore the experiences of this population in the context of health communication and data collection. Adults (18 years and older) are included to focus on experiences within the adult healthcare system. To ensure relevance to the Canadian context, participants must have ongoing care within the Canadian healthcare system. Participants must also be able to participate in an interview conducted in English, reflecting the linguistic capabilities of the research team.  
Exclusion Criteria:
Everyone who does not fit the inclusion criteria.
