Social context of lifestyle factors on pregnancy in Canada

Through five brief electronic questionnaires, this study will explore how social factors, like financial strain, discrimination and cannabis use affect the health of mothers and their babies in Canada, during pregnancy. There is an urgent need to learn more about the experiences of pregnant Canadians so that we can provide up-to-date, accurate educational information and ensure that everyone receives the best care possible during pregnancy.

All pregnant individuals between the ages of 16-45 years old in Canada who are at least 30 weeks along are eligible and encouraged to participate. You are also eligible if you have delivered your baby early, but have not yet reached your original due date. Those who enrol will be sent online surveys to complete immediately, as well as 6, 12, 24, and 36 months after they deliver their baby (or babies). Survey responses will be linked to electronic health records.

We will also invite select individuals, who live in the Calgary area, to take part in a sub-study that will use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and other assessments to measure your child's brain health along with thinking abilities, feelings, behaviors and emotions. These tests will take place when the infant is 3 and 36 months of age.

Critères de participation

Inclusion Criteria:
Pregnant Canadian residents who are 1) at least 16 years old, 2) at least 30 weeks pregnant at the time of enrolment OR have delivered early, but have not yet reached their original due date and 3) able to consent and complete English or French questionnaires
Exclusion Criteria:
You are not eligible to participate if you are 1) not pregnant, 2) under the age of 16 years old, 3) less than 30 weeks gestation, and/or 4) unable to consent or complete English or French questionnaires.
