Brain network models for understanding Risk (BRisk)

However, we don’t yet understand why. The purpose of this study is to take measurements of the brain’s structure and function in children born very preterm or very low birthweight. We want to compare brain networks to full-term born participants. We want to try to find features of those networks that might increase risk in brain development.

Participation Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
For the group born VPT, inclusion criteria include being born <=32 weeks gestational age and/or very low birthweight (<1500g).
The control group will be recruited to group-level match in terms of age, sex and maternal education (i.e., not be significantly different on these characteristics), and will have been born full-term (37-42 weeks gestational age).
Both groups must be between the ages of 7-12.
Exclusion Criteria:
For all participants, exclusion criteria will include contraindications to MRI (metal implants, claustrophobia) and inability to lie still for ~10 minutes. We will not exclude based on comorbid conditions in either group.
