The goal of this research study is to evaluate an online inter-professional pain management program for survivors of breast cancer. The main questions it aims to answer: 1. whether this treatment will help address the pain management concerns of patients, 2. whether it is feasible to offer this treatment in the future as multi-centre randomized controlled trial (RCT). Participants will be asked to attend a 6-week online pain management group sessions (1h/week). Participants will also be asked to fill out questionnaires before and after the program completion.

Over 18The proposed study is to compare a modified DE technique, which is regularly used for low-risk patients by staff anesthesiologists at our institution, to a standard awake extubation. This modified deep extubation (mDE) occurs while the patient is still anaesthetized but at a lower dose of anaesthetic gas than previously described, and balanced with long acting opioids to attenuate the airway reaction. As previously stated, the literature shows that the risks of DE are equivalent to those of regular AE practice. Our hypothesis is that mDE will shorten the time from the end of the surgery (completion of last stitch) to the moment the patient is ready to leave the OR by at least 5 minutes when compared to standard AE practice.

AnyThe best prognostic factor following neoadjuvant chemotherapy is the pathological complete response (pCR). pCR is defined as the absence of invading cells in the breast and lymph nodes following neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment. Since patients with pCR have a better prognosis than those without pCR, some studies have evaluated different methods to predict pCR early in treatment. Thus, patients who do not respond optimally to treatment could be identified early and changed treatment in order to maximize the chances of pCR and avoid the morbidity of poorly effective treatments. To do this, several modalities have been proposed, including MRI, mammography, ultrasound, positron emission tomography, elastography, and serial biopsies, but these techniques have shown predictive and sometimes expensive. Nevertheless, assessment of tumor response after cycle 2 has been suggested to be appropriate for the prediction of pCR. The main objective of this study is to compare the performance of two diagnostic modalities, namely CESM and MRI, in the evaluation of the response of a malignant breast tumor to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and the prediction of pCR. The radiological response will also be compared to the clinical response.

Over 18There is a widespread epidemic of distress and burnout (i.e., extreme distress) among Canadian physicians. Burnout is costly to physicians, patients, and healthcare organizations as it compromises physicians' own health and reduces their capacity to deliver high quality, safe care to patients. Life coaching delivered by certified coaches is a personal development tool. Life coaching has been proven to help individuals maximize their strengths and skills to handle stressors, regain control over their lives, act according to their core values, and achieve their full potential, consequently reducing their vulnerability to burnout. The investigators will evaluate life coaching for physicians' well-being in the current Canadian context. Physicians from centres in Canada will be randomly assigned to life coaching (intervention) or no coaching (control) group. The coaching group will receive a 1-hour initial coaching session followed by five 30-minute coaching sessions occurring at a frequency of every 2 to 3 weeks within 5 months (total of 3.5 coaching hours). All coaching sessions will be delivered virtually by certified life coaches. The investigators will assess the impact of coaching on physician distress and quality of life before and after the intervention.

Over 18Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among Canadian men of which approximately 20-30% present with high-risk tumour characteristic. Although surgery can be curative in patients evidencing pathological high-risk disease (extracapsular extension, seminal vesicle involvement, positive surgical margins), a large proportion will develop biochemical failure within years from the surgical procedure. The failure rate is even more pronounced in those patients that present with high prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels, pT3 disease, positive margins and Gleason score ≥8 with an estimated 75% failure rate at 10 years. Post-operative radiotherapy (RT) has been shown in three randomized trials to significantly decrease the biochemical failure rate and in one of the trials a survival benefit was also seen with the addition of post-operative RT and is considered by many investigators standard therapy in patients with pathological high-risks factors even in absence of biochemical failure.

21 - 70Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) comprises physical, sexual and emotional abuse and controlling behaviors imposed by an intimate partner. It is estimated that up to 92% of women who survive IPV may have suffered one or more traumatic brain injuries (TBI) from blows to the head, face, and neck, and/or anoxia or hypoxia due to strangulation. Even mild TBI may manifest as alternations in consciousness, black out, dizziness, disorientation, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, muscles weakness or paralysis and deficits in memory, attention, planning as well as executive functions. These signs and symptoms of TBI and their consequences impact the quality of life of women surviving IPV. Furthermore, survivors experiencing multiple IPV may acquire larger extent of the injury. Though this is recognized as an urgent and serious issue worldwide, it has been remarkably understudied. To improve the quality of life of women experiencing IPV-related TBI, and to prevent potential longer-term consequences, an evidence-based therapeutic treatment is an urgent need. The Supporting Survivors of Abuse and Brain Injury through Research (SOAR) Project at the University of British Columbia-Okanagan was designed to integrate TBI knowledge into community-based supports. This Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) trainee application will focus on the evaluation of the effectiveness of a community support network intervention for women with IPV-related TBI. The outcomes will generate valuable evidence to inform potential new TBI-informed policies regarding community-based and health care supports for survivors of IPV.

18 - 50Informed consent in pediatric anesthesia is obtained from the caregiver by the anesthesiologist prior to surgery. Studies demonstrate that caregivers often do not fully understand or recall the information (risks and benefits) discussed with them during the consent process. The use of visual aids (pictographs etc.) in the consent process has been studied and found beneficial in increasing recall of the discussion about surgery (appendectomy) and for sedation in the emergency department. The investigators developed posters/pamphlets as visual aids with information about general anesthesia and risks involved to help the caregivers understand the process and risks better when their child comes in for an elective procedure. This randomized controlled trial comparing the recall and satisfaction of the standard consent process with and without the use of the visual aids will help evaluate whether the consent process and caregiver understanding can be improved by using these aids.

Under 100The goal is to derive and a clinical decision rule for safe exclusion of traumatic brain injury without neuroimaging in head-injured ED patients who take anticoagulant medications. The objectives are to: 1. Derive and externally validate a new highly sensitive and maximally specific clinical decision rule for the exclusion of traumatic brain injury in head-injured ED patients who take anticoagulant medications; and, 2. Estimate the sensitivity and specificity of existing head injury clinical decision rules in head-injured ED patients who take anticoagulant medications.
