External radiation given in 25 fractions or so together with weekly chemotherapy and followed by 3 or 4 fractions of brachytherapy is the standard of care for patients with locally advanced cervical cancer. This study investigates the role of shortened external radiotherapy regimen (hypofractionated radiotherapy) by randomizing patients to this experimental regimen versus the standard of care. The purpose of this study is to access the feasibility of patient accrual to this trial in the Canadian setting and to provide an initial evaluation of cancer response and treatment tolerability.

This is an observational single-center trial for patients with localized prostate cancer suitable for High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy as monotherapy. This study takes a multi-omics approach to study the mechanism of action of HDR brachytherapy through metabolomics, immunological, transcriptomics, and spectroscopic profiling. The results of this study will clarify the optimal dose for HDR prostate brachytherapy by documenting the dose-response relationship seen in the changing tumor metabolites after HDR brachytherapy and investigate the immunogenicity of HDR brachytherapy.

The purpose of the study is to investigate new therapies to alleviate pain on neuropathic chronic pain. At this time, the main purpose is to complete a feasibility or pilot study with 60 participants suffering from neuropathic chronic pain. Participants will be randomized to (1) Ketamine (Hydrochloride) HCL; (2) psychotherapy (using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy); or (3) a combination of Ketamine HL and psychotherapy.

The ABC-QI Trial aims to implement collaborative quality improvement (QI) strategies to standardize care for 32-36 week infants in Level 2 and 3 Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) across the province of Alberta. The investigators want to know if using validated quality improvement methods and evidence-based care bundles will decrease the duration of hospital stay and get babies home as quickly as possible.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate financial toxicity, or financial harm, in breast cancer patients. The study will follow patients throughout their cancer treatment. The study investigators will measure if patients are experiencing financial toxicity and if it changes throughout treatment, and whether it's associated with different cancers, treatments, or demographics. Also, the study investigators will measure if financial toxicity impacts other areas of life (e.g., well-being, satisfaction). Finally, patients will be asked to estimate how much money they expect to spend on out-of-pocket expenses during their treatment and how their finances and employment status have changed since their cancer diagnosis.

The primary research objective is to determine the safety, feasibility, usability and validity of textile-enabled monitoring systems designed to capture physiologic variables, or "biological signals," related to cardiopulmonary function in children through comparison to hospital-based, standard-of-care monitoring in the Sickkids Cardiac Critical Care Unit (CCCU).

The purpose of the study is (1) to identify and collect samples from children and adults who take drugs and have adverse drug reactions AND children and adults who take drugs and do not experience any adverse drug effects; (2) to determine if genetic differences between the two groups contribute to causing the adverse drug reactions; and (3) to develop patient specific drug dosing guidelines to prevent future adverse drug reactions. We also wish to compare the use of prescription drugs, medical and hospital services and vital statistics between BC participants who experience adverse drug reactions and those who do not. Study hypothesis: Genetic differences may contribute to patients' response to drugs and may be responsible for adverse drug reactions.

Ankle sprains are the most common musculoskeletal complaint of children presenting to the emergency department (ED). Healing can often be protracted, leading to prolonged pain, missed school and work, and delayed return to a normal activity level. Smartphone apps have been shown to be associated with greater caregiver knowledge and improved outcomes in a number of conditions but have not been explored in ankle sprains. We would like to know if using a smartphone app for children with ankle inversion injuries leads to improved functional outcomes such as pain, mobility, and return to activity. We will be comparing a smartphone app that provides education and daily management reminders to a paper handout to see if the former leads to improved functional recovery.

This study aims to compare two common ultrasound techniques used during heart surgery: transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). TTE is performed by placing an ultrasound probe on the chest, while TEE involves inserting a probe into the esophagus, which provides closer and clearer images of the heart. Both methods are part of routine care for patients undergoing heart surgery. The goal of this study is to assess how well the measurements from TTE and TEE agree in evaluating heart chamber dimensions during surgery and to investigate how factors such as anesthesia, breathing techniques affect these measurements. This research involves 114 adult patients scheduled for heart surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Participants will have TTE performed before and after surgery, and TEE will be conducted during surgery. All procedures are part of the usual standard of care. By comparing these imaging techniques, the study seeks to provide more accurate and up-to-date guidelines for cardiac measurements, ensuring better care for patients during heart surgery.
