Mixed Reality Headset (Glasses) for Visual Rehabilitation
Hemianopsia | Epiretinal MembraneWe are testing head-mounted computer glasses that integrates the actual visual environment with additional digital images to potentially help patients with:
1) Peripheral vision loss after stroke or visual pathway injury
2) Double vision that does not respond to surgery or prisms
3) Wrinkled retinas (epiretinal membrane) with visual distortion that cannot be fixed by surgery
4) Incessant eye movements (nystagmus) that can cause visual loss, or the perception the visual environment is constantly moving when it is not.
Participants will navigate a short obstacle course on level ground with soft objects and read a few paragraphs of English text. The testing can be completed in one or two hospital visits and requires 60-90 minutes.

Participation Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
Adults with the four vision deficits listed below who want to participate in the study are potentially eligible: 1) Peripheral vision loss after stroke or visual pathway injury (hemianopsia or quadrantopsia)
2) Double vision that does not respond to surgery or glasses therapy
3) Wrinkled retinas (epiretinal membrane) with visual distortion that cannot be fixed by surgery and 4) Incessant eye movements (nystagmus) that cause the perception the visual environment is constantly moving, or vision loss worse than 20/40 with both eyes open.
All participants must be referred by an ophthalmologist who has determined that no other medical or surgical treatment can help you with your problem.
Participants who can comfortably walk 50 feet (15 metres) on flat ground can be part of the study. Participants who use canes, walkers, wheelchairs or mobility scooters can also be part of the study. Participants should be able to read English at the grade 8 reading level.
Exclusion Criteria:
Children may not be able to properly care for the fragile digital headset. If more robust versions of the headset become available, children who can read at the grade 8 reading level can be included.
The third-party online computerized reading test is only available in English. Participants who cannot read English will not participate in the reading portion of this study but can do the navigation course.
