Robot-arm assisted Ultrasound for Diagnosis of Heart Function
Ultrasound | HeartThree-dimensional ultrasound imaging of the heart is widely available and cost-effective. However, in many patients the heart function cannot be assessed because of poor image quality. Our group has developed a new technique for three-dimensional imaging of the heart – robot-arm assisted 3D Echocardiography to improve image quality. A robot-arm is used to move the probe which transmits the ultrasound and precisely records the position of the probe on the chest. We expect that this method allows to measure the heart function in more patients. This would reduce the need for injections of contrast agents or referrals to magnetic resonance imaging in the future.

Participation Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
In order show the accuracy of the new method measurements of the heart function with another method are required.
Adequate 2D recordings - poor 2Dechocardiographic images preclude 3D echocardiography
Stable sinus rhythm - at this stage the method only works in patients with regular heart rhythm
Age: at least 18 years of age - providing informed consent
Exclusion Criteria:
Patients need to hold the breath for at least 5 seconds.
Skin reactions to ECG electrodes or ultrasound gel during previous exams - may get worse when patients are exposed a second time
