Heart Health in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Studies on early detection of heart disease in young high-risk women with and without PCOS are limited. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormone-metabolic disorder in women and they are at increased risk of heart disease. Those with PCOS often have infertility, menstrual dysfunction and elevated testosterone levels, and altered metabolism, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. We will measure early markers of heart disease at baseline and then at 2yrs follow up including blood fats, heart function and vascular disease in women with and without PCOS with the same age and body weight. The outcomes of this study will help us understand early signs and progression of heart disease in women.
